PMI Tallahassee

Presidents Message

 David D

It has been a year that we will probably spend decades talking about, and it's only August.  We have all been with you in learning to work with children at home and/or in home-school, adjusting to separating work/life balance when you work from your couch half the time, and adapting to working with a skeleton crew at the office.  Those of us in the healthcare industry or other related front line fields  may be dealing with frenzied workloads while worrying about families and friends.  Turmoil is everywhere, and we don't yet know when it may ease.  Despite all this, you have persevered!  Project managers keep the work going, keep the end goals in sight, and rally team members to carry the weight with a smile.  You are to be celebrated for getting as far as you have this year, and I thank you for continuing to demonstrate the value our profession brings to the workforce and organizations.

Like many of you, our chapter continues to make adjustments in this unpredictable environment.  One of the adjustments was Dan Hauversburk stepped down as our VP of communication. I want to thank Dan for his commitment to the chapter, leadership, and being a rock for this chapter over the last 4 years.  Needless to say, we needed to find another VP of Communication, and I’m happy to announce that Becky Green has accepted the appointment to be our new VP of Communication.  Becky has already jumped in with both feet and is showing she will be a great leader in our chapter.  When you have an opportunity, give Becky a shout out and welcome her to the board.

As we strive to embrace our “new normal”, we are starting a ‘Kick off for Fall’ campaign.  We will be holding back-to-back chapter online meetings in September and October, and we’re adjusting the meeting costs to be $8/member; $10/non-member.

Election season is here, and it’s no different for your PMI Tallahassee Chapter.  We will be electing three new board members: VP Finance, VP Membership, and VP Professional Development. I’m excited to announce this year we are partnering with PMI Global to bring you an online election experience.  The election process begins NOW, and the process will be as follows other (timelines will be communicated in a separate notice):

  • Call for Nominations; Our chapter is better with your help; please nominate yourself or submit a nomination for someone you know for consideration!
    • Nominations will be received beginning August 5, 2020 through Septeber 14, 2020 - a notice related to the nomination form will be distributed separately.)
  • Members receive electronic ballots via email to begin the voting process.
  • Cast a vote for new board member positions.
  • Election results announced.

We miss seeing you all at chapter dinner meetings, trainings, and other events, but  know we are working to provide you with more frequent online meetings, trainings, and discussion opportunities for the remainder of the year.  We seek your feedback, as well.  If you have an online training idea, online webinar or roundtable discussion topic, have identified local community outreach needs, or would like to suggest a guest speaker for an upcoming chapter meeting, please let us know.  If you're interested in volunteering with one of our committees (professional development, communications, administration, promotion and sponsorship, etc.), we'd value your contribution.

Our PMI TLH chapter is great because of the people who are part of it.

Stay safe, and we hope to see you virtually somewhere soon.

Your humble servants,

David M Davis, President
