As part of the global Project Management Institute (PMI) network, our chapter exists to advance the practice, science, and profession of project management while building meaningful connections among professionals at every career stage. Our chapter supports more than 500 members representing diverse industries including government, education, healthcare, technology, construction, finance, and private enterprise. From students and early‑career professionals to seasoned executives, our members share a commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and ethical leadership. We provide value through high‑quality professional development programs, certification support, networking opportunities, and community engagement initiatives. Members benefit from access to chapter meetings, professional development days, workshops, mentoring, and leadership opportunities that strengthen both technical and leadership competencies. At PMI Tallahassee, we believe that strong projects build strong organizations—and strong communities build strong professionals. We encourage every member to participate, attend events, volunteer, and contribute their voice. Engagement is the foundation of our success and the driver of our continued growth. Our mission is simple: empower project professionals to learn, connect, lead, and thrive. We invite you to join us, get involved, and become part of a growing professional community that is shaping the future of project management in North Florida.
History & Chapter Formation (2003 - 2010)
Beth Anne Posey had the vision to start a PMI chapter for Florida's Capital City and surrounding area. Through a well-defined, multi-step PMI Chartering process, she has shepherded her vision to reality.
Some of the key steps that went into establishing a chapter...
- A Letter of Intent to develop a new local chapter was delivered to and approved by PMI. This submission also included a Statement of Interest, explaining why a new chapter was desired, and an Area Designation, outlining the territory to be covered by the chapter.
- An initial message was sent via email to PMI members in the Potential Chapter's geographic area, to communicate the planned formation of the new chapter.
- A Steering Committee (and initial slate of officers) was chosen to accomplish the many steps needed to bring the Chapter to life.
- Bylaws and supporting documents were developed, and approved by PMI.
- The Chapter was incorporated as a State of Florida Not-for-Profit corporation.
- A Chapter logo was designed and submitted to PMI for approval.
- A post office box was obtained.
- An electronic point of presence (web, email) was set up.
- The initial Chapter Meeting was planned.
- ... and more ...
Then, the real fun began! We held our Inaugural Meeting on December 9, 2002. Over sixty people braved an inclement evening to kick off our Chapter in style!
The next major milestone came on February 5, 2003, when PMI headquarters announced that we were no longer a Potential Chapter, but were now an official Chapter. Our Chapter Charter was officially awarded in a ceremony at the PMI Leadership Conference in March, 2003, with President, Beth Anne Posey, and Vice President Communications, Gary Eggebraaten, accepting on behalf of the Chapter.
History & Chapter Evolution (2010 – Present)
Since its founding in 2003, the PMI Tallahassee Chapter has grown from a small group of dedicated professionals into one of North Florida’s most respected professional organizations. Entering the 2010s, the chapter began a period of transformation marked by steady growth, expanded programming, and deeper community engagement. Throughout the decade, the chapter broadened its focus beyond traditional monthly meetings to include workshops, certification preparation, professional development events, and collaborative partnerships. As the project management profession evolved, the chapter adapted its programming to reflect modern methodologies such as Agile, hybrid, and adaptive delivery models, ensuring members stayed aligned with industry trends and best practices. The COVID‑19 pandemic in 2020 represented a defining moment in the chapter’s history. Like organizations worldwide, PMI Tallahassee faced sudden disruption to traditional in‑person engagement. In response, the chapter pivoted quickly to virtual meetings, online training, and digital engagement platforms. This transition preserved continuity, expanded accessibility, and allowed members to remain connected during a period of uncertainty and change.
As in‑person activities resumed, PMI Tallahassee adopted a hybrid engagement model that blends physical and virtual participation. Today, the chapter has grown to more than 500 members and continues to expand its impact, programming, and leadership capacity. Strategic planning, member‑driven programming, volunteer development, and leadership cultivation guide the chapter’s forward momentum. The future of the chapter is built by its members. Participation, engagement, and leadership involvement remain the foundation of continued success, ensuring PMI Tallahassee remains a vibrant, relevant, and impactful professional community for years to come.
